“So now faith, hope, and love abide, these three; but the greatest of these is love.”

1 Corinthians 13:13, ESV

Paul boiled what matters down to three words. Peter staked his final ministry message on them. Throughout the New Testament, faith, hope, and love form the framework for spiritual maturity. These devotionals explore that framework — passage by passage — so we might grow in the qualities that matter most.

Recalling These Things

The Framework Behind Peter’s Virtues

Peter had something few humans in history had — he knew how he would die. He bore that knowledge for 30 years, and in those years he grew into a man burdened with the spiritual success of others.

In 2 Peter 1:5–7, he left us a list of virtues with a staggering promise: develop these qualities and you will never be ineffective or unfruitful. Neglect them, and you’ve forgotten the most basic truths of your faith.

This book explores the conviction that faith, hope, and love form the hidden framework behind Peter’s list — and that understanding this framework transforms how we pursue spiritual maturity.

About the Author

Philip Spitzer is a pastor and Air Force chaplain with over 20 years of ministry experience. His passion for spiritual maturity was ignited by Colossians 1, where Paul reveals that Christ reconciled us to present us holy, blameless, and above reproach — and that pursuing maturity is how we align with what motivates our Lord.

The FAHOLO devotionals grew from years of preaching and teaching on faith, hope, and love as the framework for spiritual growth. These bulletin-length reflections are designed to help believers feast on these qualities in Scripture, one passage at a time.
